Wan Hai Lines has announced plans to build eight new container ships, including seven 11,000 TEU vessels and one 9,200 TEU vessel.
According to the announcement, Wan Hai will order seven 11,000 TEU container ships from Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., featuring methanol-ready and LNG-ready designs. The total transaction value is estimated at USD 826–868 million.
The company will also build one 9,200 TEU methanol-ready container ship, with an estimated cost of USD 102–112 million.

Wan Hai said the newbuildings are part of its long-term fleet development strategy. This is the company’s second major shipbuilding order this year, following an order for six 6,000 TEU vessels placed with Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard in February.
According to Alphaliner data, as of August 13, 2026, Wan Hai operates 124 vessels with total capacity of 624,354 TEU, ranking 11th globally. It also has 47 vessels on order, representing 484,310 TEU of additional capacity.
