COSCO Shipping Lines, together with Changan Automobile, China Construction Bank and Bank of China, has completed the first commercial issuance of an electronic Negotiable Cargo Document (NCD) based on the global NCD model.

This marks the first practical application of the NCD model in cross-border transportation after the adoption of the United Nations Convention on Negotiable Cargo Documents in December 2025.

The new document improves export efficiency by allowing issuance 10 days earlier than traditional bills of lading and reducing document transfer time between banks from 3–5 days to less than 2 hours.

Supported by GSBN blockchain technology, the process is fully digitalized. COSCO Shipping’s Chongqing and Thailand operations also provide end-to-end coordination, enabling seamless cargo tracking and document circulation.

COSCO Shipping said it will continue promoting NCD applications with manufacturers and financial institutions to support digital transformation of global supply chains.
