Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd. (Ningbo Ocean) has officially entered the roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) shipping market, launching its first Ro-Ro route from Ningbo Zhoushan Port to Europe.
The maiden voyage was operated by the LNG dual-fuel Ro-Ro vessel “CLEAN STAR,” which departed after loading more than 5,400 new energy vehicles at the Meixi Ro-Ro Terminal in Meishan Port Area, Ningbo Zhoushan Port.
The new service marks the first expansion of Ningbo Ocean’s route network into mainland Europe and will strengthen Ningbo Zhoushan Port’s role as a global hub for vehicle exports.
The vessel is 195.6 meters long, 38 meters wide, with a maximum speed of 19 knots and a designed capacity of approximately 7,000 vehicle units. It is powered by LNG and conventional fuel dual-fuel technology.
The route departs from Ningbo Zhoushan Port and calls at Port of Gioia Tauro in Italy and Port of Barcelona in Spain, delivering Chinese new energy vehicles to the European Mediterranean market in around 20 days.
In recent years, Ningbo Ocean has accelerated fleet expansion and international development. It currently operates around 120 vessels, with total capacity exceeding 100,000 TEUs and 1.9 million deadweight tons, ranking first among Zhejiang container shipping companies.
The launch of the Ro-Ro service fills a gap in Ningbo Ocean’s vehicle transportation business and further supports its development toward becoming a comprehensive global shipping service provider.
