Chancay Port Container Throughput Surges Over 70% in First Half of 2026

Chancay Port handled 200,000 TEUs of containers in the first half of 2026, representing a year-on-year increase of 70.94%.

According to data released by COSCO Shipping, Chancay Port achieved container throughput of 200,000 TEUs and bulk/general cargo throughput of 987,000 tonnes in the first half of the year, up 70.94% and 41.2% respectively.

During the same period, the port handled 137 container vessel calls, a year-on-year increase of 35.64%, as well as 50 bulk/general cargo vessel calls and 14 Ro-Ro vessel calls.

Chancay Port currently handles a wide range of cargo, including fruits, minerals, soybeans, corn, ammonium nitrate, cement, automobiles and engineering equipment.

The port has established a network consisting of three main container routes and five feeder services, connecting Asia, the west coast of South America, Central America and the Panama hub. The newly launched CHX3 feeder service in July 2026 connects Paita Port, Chancay Port and Caldera Port in Costa Rica, providing a fixed weekly service linking northern Peru and Central America.

As a key Belt and Road cooperation project between China and Peru, the Chancay–Shanghai direct shipping route has reduced transit time between the two countries from 35–40 days to around 23 days, cutting logistics costs by more than 20%. The route supports exports of fresh produce and agricultural products from Peru to China, while also providing a gateway for cargo from Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil.

Currently, the service operates two regular weekly sailings and connects Chancay with major Chinese ports including Ningbo, Qingdao, Dalian and Xiamen.
