CMA CGM, Shanghai International Port Group Energy (SIPG Energy) and Shanghai Electric have achieved a global milestone by completing the world’s largest single biomethanol bunkering operation.
From August 15 to 16, CMA CGM, together with SIPG Energy and Shanghai Electric, successfully supplied 8,016 tonnes of biomethanol to the CMA CGM Osiris at Shanghai Port, setting a new world record for the largest single biomethanol bunkering volume.

The CMA CGM Osiris is a 13,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container vessel currently operating on CMA CGM’s SEAS 2 service connecting Asia and the East Coast of South America. The bunkering operation was carried out by SIPG Energy’s bunkering vessel Hai Gang Zhi Yuan.
As part of its ambition to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, CMA CGM is accelerating its energy transition through investments in LNG, biomethane and biomethanol-powered vessels. The group currently operates one of the world’s largest dual-fuel fleets and plans to deploy 200 low-carbon fuel-powered vessels by 2031.
Shanghai Electric supplied domestically produced biomethanol from its Taonan production base in Jilin Province, while SIPG Energy provided safe and efficient marine fuel bunkering services. The successful operation marks a significant improvement in Shanghai Port’s large-scale green fuel supply and bunkering capabilities.
The cooperation originated from a long-term biomethanol supply agreement signed by CMA CGM, SIPG Energy and Shanghai Electric in March 2025, aiming to establish an integrated biomethanol value chain. The project demonstrates how cross-industry collaboration can accelerate scalable alternative marine fuel solutions and support global shipping decarbonization.
