Beibu Gulf Port has officially become a strategic shareholder of Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd., investing about RMB 543 million for a 5% stake.
On August 24, Ningbo Ocean announced the completion of its 2026 A-share private placement. The company raised about RMB 1.086 billion through the issuance of 145 million shares.
Its controlling shareholder, Ningbo Zhoushan Port Co., Ltd., and strategic investor Beibu Gulf Port Co., Ltd. each subscribed for half of the shares, with each investment amounting to approximately RMB 543 million.
After the issuance, Ningbo Zhoushan Port Co., Ltd. remains Ningbo Ocean’s controlling shareholder, while Beibu Gulf Port holds 5% of the company.
The proceeds will be used for container vessel and container procurement projects. Ningbo Ocean plans to add four 2,700 TEU container ships, mainly serving its Southeast Asia routes.
A key highlight of the transaction is the strategic cooperation between Ningbo Ocean and Beibu Gulf Port. Under their agreement, Ningbo Ocean will designate Beibu Gulf Port as its only home port in South China, build an empty container repositioning center there, and consider upgrading its Nanning office into a South China regional company when conditions are mature.

The two sides will also jointly develop foreign trade routes and build a “Beibu Gulf Port–Ningbo Zhoushan Port–Global” multimodal transport product, further strengthening links with ASEAN markets and supporting Ningbo Ocean’s expansion in South China.
Ningbo Ocean is Zhejiang’s largest container liner company, operating international, coastal and Yangtze River services. Beibu Gulf Port is Guangxi’s major public terminal operator and plays an important role in the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor and Beibu Gulf International Gateway Port development.
